Project chat

Every project has a group chat with all its members. You find it in two places, and it is the same chat in both:

  • Inbox → Projects: one row per project you are in, with the latest message and how many are unread.
  • The project’s Chat tab.

The chat belongs to the project’s members. People join by themselves when they:

  • create the project,
  • become its lead, or
  • get an item in it assigned.

Anyone who can edit work adds others: click the faces at the top right of the chat, or on the project’s Board or List, and choose Add people. Guests are in that list too, marked Guest. The same list has Remove from project for each person, and Leave project for yourself. If you open a project you are not in, Join adds you.

Only members read the chat and its files. Everyone in the workspace sees the project itself, except guests: a guest sees a project, and everything in it, only once they are a member of it. To share a project with a client, add them to it.

Enter sends and Shift Enter makes a new line. Type @ to mention a member: they get a notification in their inbox (and by email or Slack if they chose that under Notifications). Other messages only add to the unread count.

You can attach files, paste images and add emoji. Right-click your own message to edit or delete it.

Right-click a project chat, or use the pin button in the chat, to Pin to top.

When every item in a project is done or canceled, its chat moves to the folded Completed list. It stays open for writing, and comes back to Active when a new item is opened. Both Completed and Archived are closed by default.

When a project is archived, its chat moves to the folded Archived list at the bottom of Projects and becomes read-only. Restore on the project opens it for writing again.
