Dependencies

Some work cannot finish before other work is done. Dependencies make that visible.

Add a dependency

On an item, under Dependencies, click Add and choose the kind:

Kind	Means
Blocked by	This item cannot be finished until the other one is done.
Blocks	The other item waits for this one.
Related to	Connected, but neither waits for the other.

Then search for the other item by title or ID. It can be in any project. WORK³ stops loops: two items cannot block each other.

Blocked items

An item is blocked while something it is blocked by, or one of its sub-items, is still open. Blocked items carry a Blocked mark on the board, in the list and on Home. When the last blocker is done, the owner gets an Unblocked notification and the item shows as ready to start on their Home.

Closing an item that still waits

What happens is a workspace rule (Settings → Work):

Rule	What happens
Warn, then allow	People see what is still open and can close it anyway. The history notes that it was closed early.
Do not allow	The item cannot close until its blockers and sub-items are done or canceled.
Only show it as blocked	Closing just works; the item keeps its Blocked mark until the blockers are done.
