Passkeys and devices

A passkey lets you sign in with Windows Hello, Face ID, Touch ID or a security key instead of an email code. It is both faster and safer, since there is nothing to phish.

  1. Go to Settings → Profile & appearance → Sign-in and devices and click Add a passkey.
  2. Confirm it is you. If you already have a passkey, confirm with it; a code by email is not enough, so someone who gets into your email cannot add their own. Your first passkey is confirmed with a code we email you.
  3. Follow your browser’s prompt.

Passkeys marked Synced work on all your devices with the same account, for example through iCloud or Google. You can have up to 20 passkeys, and Remove any you no longer use. Removing one also asks you to confirm it is you, if you signed in more than 15 minutes ago.

On the sign-in page, choose Sign in with a passkey.

Signed-in devices lists every browser where you are signed in, when it signed in and when it was last active. This device and the two most recently used come first; Show all lists the rest. Sign out anything you do not recognise, or Sign out of all other devices at once.

A browser stays signed in while you use it, for at most 90 days. Then you sign in again.
